By default, if you close Skype for Pocket PC by tapping the cross in the top right of the Skype for Pocket PC application, then it is minimised, not closed; this is the standard behaviour for Windows Mobile applications. As a result, if you close Skype for Pocket PC in this way it will continue to run in the background and you will remain signed in. You will be notified of any incoming Skype calls or chat via Windows Mobile notification messages. If you want to sign out and completely close Skype for Pocket PC, then use the Quit option on the main menu. Also, Skype for Pocket PC will take significantly longer to appear the next time you run it.

Why does Skype run slowly on my Pocket PC?

If you have lots of applications open on your device, there may not be enough memory for Skype to run properly. To close the programs, go to Start > Settings and click the System tab. Click on the Memory icon, then click on the ‘Running Programs’ tab. You can then select each program you don’t need, one by one, and press the Stop button to close it.

The first time you connect to Skype on your device, Skype will download all your contacts and see if they are online. This can take a while. Please wait a moment before making your first call.
Skype continuously checks to see if all your contacts are online. This can take up a lot processing power on your device. You can improve the speed of your device and call quality by creating a new Skype account for your mobile with just your favourite contacts.
