Pocket PC Devices with QWERTY keyboard: Motorola MotoQ - Samsung SGH i320 - HP Ipaq hw6915

The Motorola Moto Q, the Samsung SGH-i320 and the HP IPAQ hw6915 share a common design; they all have a QWERTY keyboard on the front. They all run Windows Mobile 5.0, and carry a 1.3 megapixel camera. The Motorola Moto Q and the Samsung SGH-i320 are smartphones (no touch panel) while the HP IPAQ hw6915 is a pocket pc phone. From these three popular phones the smallest device is the Samsung SGH-i320, the nicest looking device is the Motorola Moto Q and the device with the most connectivity options is the HP IPAQ hw6915.

Motorola Moto Q

The Motorola Moto Q is a Windows Mobile 5.0 device with a Blackberry-like QWERTY keyboard and a wide 2.4 inch 320x240 pixel display, the unit also features expandable memory on mini SD cards, Bluetooth and a 1.3 mega-pixel camera. The Motorola Moto Q has EV-DO support but does not have integrated wi-fi. Also you cannot use its Bluetooth as a wireless modem. The quality of the calls is very good and the overall design of the phone is excellent. The processor is an Intel Bulverde , running at 312MHZ. The dimensions of Motorola Moto Q are a bit bigger than the Samsung SGH-i320 but smaller than the HP IPAQ hw6915. At the time Motorola Q was released it was the thinnest smartphone in the market. With the release of Samsung SGH-i320 Motorola lost this advantage. Motorola will be released for GSM support in the next couple of months.

Samsung SGH-i320

The ultra slim SGH-i320 Smartphone has a QWERTY keypad (with 2 letters assigned to a digit) and runs on Windows Mobile 5.0. It is one of the thinnest and lighter smartphones running WM5.0 in the market, 111 x 59 x 11.5 mm big and weighs 95 g. The i320 is equipped with 2.2" display with 65K colors and 320 x 340 pixels resolution (compared to the 2.4 inch of Motorola Moto Q). The QWERTY Smartphone has 120 MB internal memory and a microSD slot for additional memory. 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth and USB are also built-in. The processor is a Samsung at 394MHZ. The performance of this device is very good, the quality of the 1.3 pixel camera is acceptable and the price of this device 365 GBP is satisfactory.

HP IPAQ hw6915

The HP iPAQ hw6915 is the successor of hw6515. It is a candybar device with a better processor, same display (resolution and size) and better memory. It is a device suitable for those who want a powerful set of connectivity options (WI-FI, Bluetooth,GPS, GPRS,EDGE) and like the QWERTY keyboard on the front. It is not the smallest or fastest device around but overall it is a device that can satisfy the needs of its owner.
The HP iPAQ hw6915 is now available from sale directly from HP’s online shop. The device has been around for some months now in Europe and Asia. The hw6915 is powered by windows mobile 5. It is a pocket pc mobile (with phone functionality - QuadBand) and a PDA. It has build in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 1.2 and build in GPS. It supports EDGE and GPRS. The processor is an XScale at 416Mhz. The HP iPAQ hw6915 also has a camera at 1.3 mega pixels.
